Improving the neck area

The neck and décolletage area are particularly prone to revealing your true age. At Falmouth Facial Aesthetics, we use advanced techniques to help rejuvenate these areas with anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers.

We can also treat other challenging areas such as the chin and jawline. These progressive cutting-edge procedures can enhance the entire face by restoring balance and a more youthful look.*

Neck lines

Neck lines are created by the platysma muscle radiating from the lower jaw along the front of the neck and décolletage. Sometimes referred to as ‘turkey neck’, these lines are either horizontal ‘necklace’ lines or the vertical bands that are prominent when you clench your teeth.

No matter how well you look after your skin, you may find that your neck area is the biggest giveaway of your age. We can use anti-wrinkle injections to treat these lines and give you a much smoother, younger-looking neck.*

Redefining the jaw and reducing the appearance of jowls

As your skin loses some of its elasticity over time, you may notice that you’re losing definition around your lower jaw. This can give your face an older, more ‘jowly’ appearance. At Falmouth Facial Aesthetics, we are highly skilled in using anti-wrinkle injections to reduce the appearance of jowls under the lower jaw to enhance the contours of the jawline.*

Chin augmentation and reshaping

The forward projection of the chin can be enhanced with dermal fillers placed in the central-most portion of the chin. Ideally a straight line will be created touching the tip of the nose to the lips and chin.

Dermal fillers can also be used to enhance the areas either side of the chin towards the marionette (mouth-to-chin) lines to give the lower face more balance. When fillers are placed deeply on the most southerly point of the chin, the chin will appear lengthened. While dermal fillers placed in the soft tissue beneath the chin will rotate the chin forwards shortening its length.

Dr James Willis may recommend supporting dermal-filler treatment with anti-wrinkle injections to reduce the labio-mental fold: the hollow between the lower lip and the chin.

Rejuvenating the décolletage

The décolletage area is prone to the signs of ageing as the skin is quite thin and is often exposed to the sun. With expert placement of dermal fillers, we can plump and smooth lines and wrinkles for a firmer, more youthful look.*

Your questions answered

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are made from a protein that occurs naturally in bacterium. It relaxes facial muscles by interacting with nerve endings to prevent the release of the compound that triggers muscle contractions. This can help to soften fine lines and wrinkles including neck lines.*

How long does the treatment take with Dr James Willis?

Your initial complimentary consultation with Dr James Willis is open ended but usually takes about half an hour. The actual anti-wrinkle injection treatment often takes less than 10 minutes.

If you’re a new client, we will usually invite you to return for a review after 2 weeks.

What improvements will I see after treatment?

It will take around 5 days to begin to see results such as wrinkles appearing softer and less obvious in treated areas. Your jaw and neck area will look younger and more relaxed. Improvements optimise after about a fortnight.*

How long will results last?

The effects of your treatment should last between 3 to 6 months, depending on your individual response. You may then need a top-up treatment. Subsequent treatments tend to last longer. Dr James Willis will talk through this during your free consultation.

Is the treatment painful?

No. The medication is injected in very small doses with an ultra-fine needle. It is mildly uncomfortable and doesn’t need any anaesthetic. However, some clients ask us to use a topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) such as Emla cream. Dr James Willis is happy to do this if you prefer.

Will it leave my face frozen and without expression?

No. We assess the optimum dose to produce a relaxed soft appearance but you will still have facial expression and movement.

Are there any side effects?

Generally, no. Some clients experience slight bruising or swelling immediately after treatment. We will discuss this in detail with you at the time of your consultation.

Is there anything that I should or shouldn’t do after anti-wrinkle injection treatment?

You should avoid touching the treated area for a few hours. You will need to keep upright immediately after treatment and it is helpful to exercise the treated muscles during the first few hours. The dos and don’ts will be explained in detail during your assessment.

Can Dr James Willis combine anti-wrinkle injections and dermal-filler treatments?

Yes. Dr James Willis often provides an integrated treatment plan combining the 2 treatments. For example, treating neck lines and the décolletage would involve both dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are gels made from hyaluronic acid (a naturally-occurring substance that helps to maintain healthy skin). When injected they can help to replace lost volume, add contour and definition, smooth lines and wrinkles and restore a more youthful look.*

What happens to the dermal filler after it’s been injected?

Over time, the dermal filler will break down naturally and be reabsorbed by the body.

Which areas can Dr James Willis treat with dermal fillers?

This versatile treatment can be used for the following:

  1. Augment and reshape the chin
  2. Décolletage lines and wrinkles
  3. Nose-to-mouth lines
  4. Lip contour and volume for plumper lips
  5. Marionette lines (from the corners of the mouth to the chin)
  6. Enhancing the cheeks
  7. Deeper glabella (frown) and forehead lines
  8. Crow’s feet around the eyes.
  9. Jawline refining
  10. Nose reshaping

How long does the treatment take?

It takes about 20 minutes depending on the area being treated.

What results will I see immediately after my dermal filler treatment?

The result is immediate. Your skin will appear younger and smoother.

How long will the results last?

Results may last for 6 to 9 months depending on the product and the areas being treated. Subsequent treatments tend to last a little longer.* Dr James Willis will talk through this during your free consultation.

Is the treatment painful?

No, Dr James Willis is an expert in gentle injecting techniques. Some dermal fillers contain anaesthetic to reduce discomfort further still. For dermal-filler treatment around the lips and mouth, we tend to use local anaesthetic to completely numb the area. This is the same feeling that you would have with a dental anaesthetic.

Are there any side effects?

Initially, there is a little redness and swelling that usually subsides after 12 hours. You may experience some bruising, which subsides over time. These side effects are all quite normal.

What our clients say

  • “I’d always hated the lines around my neck – they seemed to appear when I was relatively young. Thanks to Dr Willis I don’t have to hide away in polo necks anymore! He made the whole procedure calm and relaxed and the rest of the team were super helpful too.”

    Isla Lapsley

  • “When I first spoke to Dr Willis about my chin I really didn’t expect that much could be done without surgery. So I was really surprised when he recommended dermal fillers. The treatment has made such a difference. My chin looks longer (it was almost short and stubby before) as it projects forward for much better definition and shape.”
