What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections are made from a protein that occurs naturally in bacterium. It relaxes facial muscles by interacting with nerve endings to prevent the release of the compound that triggers muscle contractions. This can help to soften fine lines and wrinkles. It can also be used to lift the corners of the mouth if they have drooped.*
How long does the treatment take with Dr James Willis?
Your initial complimentary consultation with Dr James Willis is open ended but usually takes about half an hour. The actual anti-wrinkle injection treatment often takes less than 10 minutes.
If you’re a new client, we will usually invite you to return for a review after 2 weeks.
What improvements will I see after treatment?
It will take around 5 days to begin to see results such as wrinkles appearing softer and less obvious in treated areas. Your face will look younger and more relaxed. Improvements optimise after about a fortnight.*
How long will results last?
The effects of your treatment should last between 3 to 6 months, depending on your individual response. You may then need a top-up treatment. Subsequent treatments tend to last longer. Dr James Willis will talk through this during your free consultation.
Is the treatment painful?
No. The medication is injected in very small doses with an ultra-fine needle. It is mildly uncomfortable and doesn’t need any anaesthetic. However, some clients ask us to use a topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) such as Emla cream. Dr James Willis is happy to do this if you prefer.
Will it leave my face frozen and without expression?
No. We assess the optimum dose to produce a relaxed soft appearance but you will still have facial expression and movement.
Are there any side effects?
Generally, no. Some clients experience slight bruising or swelling immediately after treatment. We will discuss this in detail with you at the time of your consultation.
Is there anything that I should or shouldn’t do after anti-wrinkle injection treatment?
You should avoid touching the treated area for a few hours. You will need to keep upright immediately after treatment and it is helpful to exercise the treated muscles during the first few hours. The dos and don’ts will be explained in detail during your assessment.
Can Dr James Willis combine anti-wrinkle injections and dermal-filler treatments?
Yes. Dr James Willis often provides an integrated treatment plan combining the 2 treatments. He will talk through the potential options during your consultation.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are gels made from hyaluronic acid (a naturally-occurring substance that helps to maintain healthy skin). When injected they can help to replace lost volume, add contour and definition, smooth lines and wrinkles and restore a more youthful look. They are also used for natural-looking lip enhancement*
What happens to the dermal filler after it’s been injected?
Over time, the dermal filler will break down naturally and be reabsorbed by the body.
Which areas can Dr James Willis treat with dermal fillers?
This versatile treatment can be used for the following:
- Nose-to-mouth lines
- Lip contour and volume for plumper lips
- Marionette lines (from the corners of the mouth to the chin)
- Enhancing the cheeks
- Deeper glabella (frown) and forehead lines
- Crow’s feet around the eyes.
- Jawline refining
- Nose reshaping
How long does the treatment take?
It takes about 20 minutes depending on the area being treated.
What results will I see immediately after my dermal filler treatment?
The result is immediate. Your skin will appear younger and smoother.
How long will the results last?
Results may last for 6 to 12 months for lip enhancement. Subsequent treatments tend to last a little longer.* Dr James Willis will talk through this during your free consultation.
Is the treatment painful?
No, Dr James Willis is an expert in gentle injecting techniques. Some dermal fillers contain anaesthetic to reduce discomfort further still. For dermal-filler treatment around the lips and mouth, we tend to use local anaesthetic to completely numb the area. This is the same feeling that you would have with a dental anaesthetic.
Are there any side effects?
Initially, there is a little redness and swelling that usually subsides after 12 hours. You may experience some bruising, which subsides over time. These side effects are all quite normal.
What about ‘trout pout’?
A well-known celebrity experienced a much-publicised mishap following a lip procedure. To her absolute credit she made a television documentary to highlight her plight. So what happened? As she readily admits she made 3 mistakes. Firstly, she didn’t check the credentials of her practitioner. Secondly, she chose a permanent not a resorbable product. Thirdly, she was allergic to the product used
